Spagetti Carbonara a la T

Definitely not good for the waist line but amazing on the tastebuds. Carbonara is always what I order when I go to an Italian. Even though I've made lots of creamy white wine pastas, Saturday night was the first time I ever tempted to make the dish, and darn was it a top notch success :) If I do say so myself :P Was delighted that the egg didn't scramble when I added it in! I know the traditional carbonara doesn't include cream, but my one does ! Was absolutely delish! Will defo be making it again, and will add a touch more cream just for the chips sake. Oh and I added in some button mushrooms on the top just because they were looking lonely in the fridge.

Some dinners of the week

Eating for one and being stuck in traffic for an hour results to alot of laziness :(

Trio, salt and chili prawns and some chicken balls for the dogs all washed down with a can of coke!! Bo's favourite= chicken balls, she goes crazy for them

I did cook over the weekend though and it was a pretty tasty meal.

Boneless lamb chops marinated overnight in garlic, olive oil and rosemary. Served with some mushrooms, french beans and the staple diet of the chinese, rice!!

Bo didn't get any though do to her bad behaviour.. Do not let this face fool you..

And finally, last night Mr. C was off so the pots and pans came out to play. Wasn't in the mood of cooking, due to some of us being in work! So on the menu was chicken curry. I made two curries, both of the same ingredients- mine had onions in it, but Mr. C's was extra extra hot and I used curry powder, while mine I used a curry paste, just to see the difference.

Left- Mr. C's and Right- mine. Mine was ready first, so I got a bit lazy and just plopped his on the plate, it hadn't thickened up like mine, but I was tired and hungry and just wanted to eat :D:D:D He did say it still tasted good though :)
Mine does look slightly more appetizing though :P

Meal for one :(

Mr. C is in work all this week so it looks like I'll be eating alone, always have the two dogs staring up at me from under the table though :)

So what do you cook when you're eating alone? Was tempted to order a take away, nobody was around to clean up the cooking mess after me :P

Black bean sauce ribs and bak choi

=

Don't worry, I didn't eat everything by myself ! I did leave some for the man's who's bringing home the bread and butter :D

All about food day..

It's been such a productive day- well productive food day that is. Not only did I go into town this morning to do some food shopping- well all I wanted was a coffee cake from M&S but you can never come out of there without some of this that and the other! Ended up in Oriental Emporium, coming out with some chinese veg, some mochi, some hor fun and some beansrpouts!! Paid FXB butchers on Moore Street a visit and bought some pork ribs for steamed black bean ribs for tomorrow night's dinner, and some pork chops for the following night! And then to the beautiful food of M&S..

What excites my tastebuds is those chocolate and vanilla whoopie pies!! Will give you my verdict on them!!

After all the food shopping I came home to make some dumplings !! Was a bit tired and lazy after all the preparations that I didn't, or wasn't arsed taking any pictures !! Will take pics of them when they're cooked :) They are sitting nicely in the freezer waiting to be frozen and eaten when there's no other food in the house :D

So what's for dinner tonight.. Well I was going to make some beef hor fun, but since I didn't buy any beef, think we'll just go for the vegetarian option, soya hor fun with beansprouts accompanied by a soya chicken leg !! Well not exactly soya it turns out... I had bought a bottle of Lee Kum Kee Soya Sauce for chicken, or so I thought... While making it today, still thinking it was soya sauce for chicken, I looked closely at the bottle and say the word 'water' on the label.. Now having paid feck all attention in chinese school, 'water' was one of the first words I probably learned as a kid, and that happened to be on the bottle.. Now where did 'see yau' have a 'water' word in it !!??!! Then I realised I had bought 'low shui' sauce.. sigh sigh.. To this minute I still don't know the word for 'see yau', might have to have a look at the bottles I have in the press.. :( So it's 'low shui' chicken leg tonight !!

1) Boil a pot of water first.

2) Add in the chicken legs when the water is boiled.

3) After a few minutes turn off the heat and bring the pot over to the sink and rinse with cold water for 5 minutes (put the chicken legs in a bowl of ice water if you have ice in the freezer and leave there for 5-10 minutes)

This is what I used.. N.B. IT IS NOT SOYA SAUCE FOR CHICKEN :P

4) Follow instructions on the bottle as to how much water you have!! I had no idea to what 'cc' was so I just added a bottle and half of water to it and some rock sugar !! Measurements not exact, all done according to my liking... :P

5) Bring to the boil and then put on lowest heat possible, cover and cook for 20 minutes. Leave in the pot for a few hours to let the flavours seep into the chicken..

And the result...

Will be in the next post- my chicken is still in the pot!!

Cleaner upgraded to chef for the night

The top kitchen cleaner was promoted to take on the task of cooking dinner and what a superb job he done. Under my guidelines- well I did try but I let him to his own thing in the end, dinner was served, eaten and digested with no sore tummy problems!!

Sweet and sour porky, fermented bean curd with morning glory and bak choi boiled in chicken stock :) (bak choi I made) :P Two dishes was more than enough for him to cook!!
