Octopussy Howth

Haven't enjoyed a meal as much as I enjoyed Octopussy in Howth for a long time. Maybe it was the ambiance of eating outside in the sun, the scenery or just great company!

What a gorgeous way to spend a Sunday, walking through the farmers markets, admiring all the food, arts and crafts, and fresh produce, and just chillaxing the day away. Octopussy is definitely on the favorite restaurants list. Excluding the crap, or even non existent service, the food was definitely there to bring it up a notch. Waiting 20 odd minutes for a waitress just to pop out, say hello and give us a menu and taking away the dirty cups and plates on the table, not acceptable by T standards!

Even Suki tired with the wait!

The idea was just to sit down, have a mocha and a slice of cake, but the tapas menu looked so tempting it was hard to resist ordering something from it. How tempting? Well considering we were too full to get a woodfire pizza to share, hence just a coffee, it seemed like an easy task to give into the tapas.

I opted for 2 medium tapas and a mocha where Mr.C decided on just a berry crumble and americano. Obviously it ended up as a case where we shared everything!

Calamari

Crab claws in garlic butter

The ever so sour berry crumble (never again)

Since waiting to get a menu was 20ish minutes long, it didn't come as a surprise the food took longer, half an hourish for a few tapas? A bit of a long wait no? Yes I'm sure you can sense I'm disgusted with the service, but the food, amazing. Going back again? Hell yeah!

The Poterhouse Glasnevin

This place has always been a firm fav of Mr. C. The chicken wings gets him there every time! And I have to say it's a great little place to go for a bit of grub and football (if you're into that sort of thing)- there's great screens all around the pub so you don't miss a goal!

I opted for the steak sandwich on ciabatta, garlic mayo and rocket. Slightly disappointing. I asked for the steak medium/well done, but it seemed to have come out well done/well done. Usually I order well done, but being fussy decided to have it different. It was so tough at one stage I thought I was going to choke on the thing! Very dry piece of meat and the garlic mayo didn't seem to do anything for it :( The ciabatta was lovely though! Nice and crispy, can't go wrong with a bit of the good old carbohydrates. Chips were nice and thick, chunky chips all the way. A few sun burnt ones happened to land on my plate though :P Yeah I'm being very fussy today aren't I :P

Another rare occasion Mr. C gets the ordering item right but this time he win's fair and square all the way. A generous helping of 'suicide' chicken wings (called due to the spiciness) topped with lots of jalapenos on top served with a blue cheese dip and celery sticks, bang on. The sauce on the wings weren't that spicy, I could stand the heat on them, but I think the added jalapenos on top is what gives the wings its name and added heat. Definitely one to order when visiting again.

*kitchen forgot to put on the jalapenos at this stage, they came quickly after*
